The Metro Foundation
The Metro Foundation aspires to be the leading provider of infectious disease-related education, training, and access to timely, compassionate, and innovative care. Through high-quality educational programs targeted to the medical community and general public, as well as patient-centered initiatives for underserved populations, the Metro Foundation continually strives to build capacity within the field of infectious disease and improve the quality of life for those affected by it.
As a not-for-profit charitable organization, the foundation relies primarily on private support to implement its programs and services and advance its mission. Our work is only possible through the generous philanthropy of foundations, corporations, and individuals, as well as volunteerism, in-kind services, and other support from the medical community, corporations, and the general public.
About Us
In 2003, Dr. Russell Petrak and several other concerned infectious disease physicians from the Chicago area founded The Metro Foundation to fill a void in the community. In addition to supporting professional medical education in the field, the foundation was started to address a real need to provide direct care and other services to underserved populations.
With support from corporate partners, infectious disease physicians, and the general public, the foundation provides high-quality education and access to timely, compassionate, and innovative care related to infectious diseases. Since 2003, some of the foundation’s activities and achievements include:
Presenting an annual 3-day intensive infectious disease board review course attended by over 150 physicians from more than 30 states and 4 countries.
Providing lifesaving vaccines to hundreds of children in underserved areas of the world.
We plan to launch a free public education program on communicable infectious diseases.

Outreach
The Metro Foundation is dedicated to supporting the procurement of lifesaving medical services for infectious diseases in underserved populations. Through various programs, including an international vaccines initiative, the foundation continually seeks opportunities to partner with organizations and individuals in the field to provide vaccines and related medical supplies to those in need, both domestically and abroad. In 2008, the foundation launched a new annual fundraising initiative, The Metro Quarantine, to support these efforts. To date, the program has raised over $10,000 to fund lifesaving childhood vaccinations in underserved areas worldwide.
